Location

On a cliff above the Mediterranean coastal town of Salobreña, this picturesque white washed town at the foot of the Sierra Nevada is situated on a very
beautiful coastline of the Costa del Sol, 96 km east of Malaga airport and is also known as "Costa Tropical".  The old center is located below the Castell and is a typical old Andalucian village. It is located 70 km south of Granada with views of the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada.

Bigger view

The old town of Salobreña, located on a hill, is overlooking a former Moorish castle, that now has a shady park inside. The view across the fertile plantations is worth the hike through the narrow streets. Further inland is the last eurpoean sugar cane factory which still uses some 100 year old machines to process sugar.

The climate is protected due to the closeness of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the winters are milder than in the western part of the "Costa del Sol" (Malaga / Marbella). This can also be found in the vegetation that includes, custard apples, mangos, bananas and sugar cane that grow in part due to the mild winter and the clear melt water from the Sierra Nevada. The main income in this area is still algriculture, tourism plays a smaller role here.

For golfers Motril has a 9-hole course "Los Moriscos" located on a very large sandy beach on the Playa Granada. The golf course is fantastic integrated into the area, directly overlooking the sea, surrounded by palm plantations with small lakes. Salobreña has two long sandy beaches. The town beach has many good restaurants to choose from and on the beach, at the playa la guardia, you will find the locals taking advantage of this beautiful water.
